Our little family

You saw the farm introduced on the home page, so this section is to get the family flock in a tad more detail. And yes, I know it's another one of those family portrait websites, and it has pix of their cats! Well, that's life - I just don't want to be too different to the rest of the world.

Mutton family pic, 22kB The family is shown at left, from left to right are Geoff, (the bald one), Craig, (the geographer guitarist), the ever-beautiful Kerry, (the good-looking one), our eldest offspring Sheree, (the Celtic clone), and Troy, (our man in Amnesty International and drone musician extraordinaire). Selecting the image will lead you to a clearer, larger version: 580 x 268, 38kB.

In general, we are a typical stressed-out modern family. I really would like the garage back (from my accumulated pack-rat ways), so I can get on the Internet more frequently than I do. A game of snooker or pool before teatime would also be nice. Sigh.

Now for each member

Geoff (Dad)

Geoff's mug shot, 16kB (Full image is 350 x 561, 60kB) A pic taken 1997-09 approx. Geoff is the titular head of the home, but only because he is the elder statesman. The rest of the family defer to him in all things, unless those actually impinge on their needs. In those cases, Dad loses out, (as usual). He has lots (too many) of interests, as will be seen when you drift through the rest of these pages.

There are more details available on the Geoff page. This lists such things as lists of favourite books and music, and lists of books and music he's actually lusting after, but can't afford (yet?) I have even received email from people about Roger Roger and his Champs Elysees Orchestra. Talk about a hard artist to get info about! And so far, forget about back catalogues of music...

Kerry (Mum)

Photo of Kerry, 13kB ((Full image is 300 x 385, 45kB) Kerry is the Queen of our hearts. She runs the home, and we are all quite quick to let people know - especially callers over the phone: "No, the head of the home isn't back from the shops yet," quoth us. "Whom may I say is calling?" Mind you, it can get you a sour look from the lady, most unbecoming. :-)

Her interests include crafting knick-knacks of all sorts, watching good drama on Foxtel's cable, shopping for non-essentials, and lounging about with a tall cool drink watching the galahs, cockatoos and honeyeaters flying about this suburban home. What a pair we are!

Pat, Tom & Kerry, 6kBKerry, Pat and Tom late Sunday, 1998-08-30 - 11kB (219 by 239)
Pat and Tom - Kerry's parents - were over for lunch (the meal around noon in Australia) Sunday 1998-08-29. They were on their way home when I snapped this digipic.

Her family name was Watters, from Cambridgeshire in the 1850's, crossed with McAnespie's from Belfast, Ireland in the 1920's. Her Poppy was born there in 1898, and his darlin' wife is still about, at 95, going strong. G'day, Mac! Kerry's ancestry may have her as a dual First Fleet descendant, and also a sixth generation Aussie! Otherwise, she can only claim to be a fifth generation Aussie.

Here is a link to an image of Kerry and Sheree at our Fathers Day party at Sizzlers in 1999. (Full image is 68kB, 430 x 341).

Sheree (Eldest)

Ireland, however, topped the charts - anything celtic rates well with this family. Dublin was excellent - a local lad even tried to pick her up while she was having a lunch-time rest. A couple of fun hours were spent with her asking the lad to slow down, say that again a bit slower. :-)

The latest event in her life has been an exciting one. She went skydiving - a tandem jump from 4000m Saturday, October 24, 1998. Sydney Sky Diving has a training school at Bankstown Airport, only a few km from the Silicon Sheep Paddock itself. See my sky diving page for a few pix.

Our eldest, Sheree is our Celtic traveller, returned in July 1997 from a 3 week sojourn to the British Isles. She flew QANTAS (of course) and hired cars in England and Ireland. The little island of Britain was cute - she really loved Scotland and Stonehenge. Bath was fabulous. Sheree's photo, 12kB (Full image 239 x 382, 22kB).The photo was from a series she had taken when she was considering a role as a photographic model. I think she fits the bill, but I'm only her dad.

Another technically-qualified member of the home, with a degree in Science, Computer Studies, and works as a programmer (COBOL/SAS/SQL? etc) for GIO - the old NSW Government Insurance Office, now (2000) a part of the AMP empire.

She has dragged me along late in 1998 to an Adult Education centre at Liverpool (no, the outer city inside Sydney, nowhere near UK) for an 8-week introductory course in Auslan, the Australian Sign Language as used by the Deaf community here in Australia. Sally was our tutor, who is hearing and acts as an interpreter to the Deaf Community, and who taught the 10 of us us finger-spelling, numbering, and introducing the culture of the Deaf to us hearing people. Wonderful stuff. My mum was hearing-impaired through an ear infection when she was about 6 years old. She lost over half of her hearing, but got by with hearing-aids. These days, we may get to be more enlightened (hah!) and teach sign to speed up education and training. I have a link to a few online local (Australian) Deafness resources: Deafness. Most still work.

Troy (Middle)

Troy's photo, 16kB (Full image is 300 x 328, 61k)Troy, from 1995, who hates pictures of him, but not by him, is a drone music guru, guitarist/organist, programmer/drums, knob-turner/twiddler of knobs, with his own web page on Serendipity. The rest of his music is : em ("electronica/drumnbass in my bedroom by myself"); (electronica, knob twiddling with Todd - no name as yet) He is heavily into drumnbass since early 1999, and has a few pages sampling his wares at ..., after a short stint at mp3.com.

Visit when you like. For an old fuddy-duddy, I like a lot of it...

Jemima cat, 16kB (Full image is 430 x 331, 28k)Troy's puddy-tat was 8 weeks old in late November, 1998 when he bought her from a local pet shop. Quite a personality in her. As she has grown up, she has become more strongly typed - a nutcase.

He has completed his TAFE course in librarian work. He still works for Amnesty International here in Sydney as a campaign officer, and the spokeperson on East African affairs. Both these jobs are voluntary, of course. His other interests include bird-watching (no, the feathered kind!) and photography. That's where my old Pentax Spotmatic disappeared to back in 1998. His painting - not the house-type, but on scrap board - is very post-modern. We must scan a section of a few of them and post them here. (Hint, Troy!)

He has now moved into a house in Leichhardt, close by Sydney Uni, where he works full-time at the Library - permanent relief. Money at last! Designing web pages, playing keyboards, vreating music - what a life.

Craig (Youngest)

Craig's photo, 12kB (Full image is 300 x 345, 32kB) Craig at the organ, 7kB Craig at the organ, just composing. 39kB (392 by 450) Craig is another photo-phobe, who practices his guitar, and thus the quality shows. He is into writing songs as well, and has surprised both himself and his parents in that we can all listen to them and not secretly shudder! And his guitar work is good! He has fine touch on the organ as well, and has decided to branch out a tad: violin and balalaika both now receive attention...
He has started University in 1998, majoring in his favourite subjects of Politics and Geography: specifically, a Bachelor of Science - Environmental Studies at Macquarie University. He's not too keen on the Statistics side. Final year is 2000, and he is off his P-plates. Very happy.

Bitsy (The outside cat)

Bitsy's photo, 13kB (Full image is 400 x 285, 34kB) The ever-lovely Bitsy, coz she's bits of this and bits of that, is a 12-year-old desexed female cat. Our outside cat is a gem - will always attempt to trip you if you wander out the back door clutching a small tin of fish and a bottle of milk - Tucker time! She doesn't purr much, but is quite affectionate. Actually, I'm convinced she's a bit of a tart - always ready to roll on her back for a vigorous tummy rub, while she twists and turns in delight! This pic was taken 1997-Nov-06, with her waiting anxiously for more tummy-rubs.

Jesse (The indoor cat)

Jesse's photo, 10kB (Full image is 43kB, 375 x 536). Photographed 1997-11-15 Jesse at 34mo, 7kB
Jesse photographed Friday 1998-08-28 - 9kB (213 x 215)

4-year-old Jesse - the rather grumpy Persian house pussy, a black and pampered pet - is a lad, desexed in the interests of keeping his long fur somewhat under control. He's a bit of a sookie grump, but is loved by us all. He could be friendlier, and has the loudest purr I have ever heard in a cat, always ready to plonk himself down on your feet as soon as you've slid under the doona, or even before if it's getting late. He doesn't like being picked up, but loves a back rub. He thinks that food (preferably salmon - turns his nose up at tuna these days) should grow on trees. He's a responsible pussy, too bumbling to catch the feral imported English birds that abound in our neighbourhood. So nowadays, he can go outside the house without being on a tether. A cat's life is so tough.

Oh, and ecologically, we've done our bit - both cats are neutered, and Jesse does spend 90+% of his time indoors..

img off PhotoCD (Full image is nnkB, xxx x yyy) photo'd 2000-01-23 The newest member of the household is the Shi Tzu-cross-Maltese terrier we named Cindy. She was born in 1999-08, and is a people lover. The best thing in life is going for a walk, and seeing a person, any person, and being able to even get near them. Loves them - licks, smooches up, jumps up if the tether is loose. She'd lick you to death in her excitement. Desexing hasn't slowed her down at all.

Yagoona Shops & Sheree, 4kB A typically depressing shopping precinct, enlivened by Sheree crossing the Hume Highway - 27kB (500 by 244). This is about 2km from the home paddock, but it is the nearest rail station, so again ecologically is the preferred means of travel to/fro work.
